# Image Engine

> Configure the AI image generation model your character uses, test generations in the playground, and browse everything your character has created.

# Image Engine

This is where you configure your character's ability to **generate images**. When someone asks your character to draw something, create a picture, or make a meme, this is the engine that handles it.

<Note>
  Image Engine is a newer feature and may still be evolving. If you find a bug or have feedback, share it in the [AurInfer Discord](https://aurinfer.com/discord).
</Note>

**How to get here:**

> Go to your character's dashboard → left sidebar → click **Universal** → click **Image Engine**

The full path is: **Universal → Image Engine**

This section has **three sub-pages**:

1. **Image Engines** — choose which image generation model to use and configure it
2. **Playground** — test image generation without needing a live conversation
3. **Character Gallery** — browse every image your character has ever generated

## Image Engines

**Full path: Universal → Image Engine → Image Engines**

This is the main configuration page. Here you choose your image generation model and set how it generates images.

| Setting | What it does | Simple explanation |
| --------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Model** (dropdown) | Which AI image model your character uses. Examples: Stable Diffusion, FLUX, etc. | Like choosing between different artists — each one has a different style and quality. |
| **Guidance Scale** (slider) | How strictly the AI follows your text prompt vs. using its own creative interpretation. | High = very literal ("draw exactly what I said"). Low = more artistic freedom. |
| **Steps** (number) | How many "refinement passes" the AI makes when creating the image. | More steps = higher quality image but takes longer to generate. |
| **Aspect Ratio** (dropdown) | The shape/size of the generated image.                                                  | Options like 1:1 (square), 16:9 (widescreen), 9:16 (portrait/phone), etc.             |
| **Format** (dropdown) | The file type of the generated image. | PNG (high quality), JPEG (smaller file), WEBP (web-optimized). |

## Playground

**Full path: Universal → Image Engine → Playground**

This is your **testing sandbox**. You can type a prompt here and generate an image immediately — without needing to go into a real conversation or wait for a user to ask.

**How to use it:**

1. Navigate to **Universal → Image Engine → Playground**
2. Type a description of an image you want to generate (the "prompt")
3. Click Generate (or similar button)
4. See the result instantly

**What to use the Playground for:**

* Test whether your model and settings are producing the quality you expect
* Try different prompt wordings to see what gets the best results
* Preview your configuration before your character encounters real image requests

## Character Gallery

**Full path: Universal → Image Engine → Character Gallery**

This page shows **every image your character has ever generated** across all conversations and platforms (Discord, Bluesky, etc.).

Images are displayed in a grid layout. Each image is labeled with:

* The platform it came from (e.g., Discord)
* An **AI** badge showing it was AI-generated

**What to use the Gallery for:**

* Review the quality of images being generated in real conversations
* Find and reference specific images your character has made
* Identify patterns if the character is generating off-topic or low-quality images

<Tip>
  If your character keeps generating weird or off-topic images, look through the Gallery to understand the pattern. Then go to **Universal → AI Engine → Advanced Settings → Global Instructions** and add a rule like: `"Only generate images when the user explicitly asks for one."` This helps the character use image generation more appropriately.
